Deborah Gutman

Dr. Gutman has over 25 years of medical student and residency education and admissions experience and intimate knowledge of the landscape of healthcare and medical education. She partners with students to create an individualized roadmap, lifelong career tools, and ongoing mentorship as they navigate the post-baccalaureate, medical school, or residency application process. She has reviewed hundreds of successful applications and identified missed opportunities for success. Her mission is to help students reflect and build on their existing strengths, mediate authentic growth, and create the next generation of confident change agents and healers in medicine. 

Dr. Gutman is an emergency physician. She earned her ScB from Brown University in Neuroscience, an MPH with a concentration in medical ethics and program evaluation and development from the Boston University School of Public Health, and her MD from NYU School of Medicine and the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University. She completed her emergency medicine residency training at the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University. She became the Assistant Program Director for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program and then the Department of Emergency Medicine Curriculum Coordinator. She has participated in the American College of Emergency Physicians Teaching Fellowship. She has received several national and local teaching awards for her work with medical students and residents. She has practiced at Rhode Island Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. 

Currently, she is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University and the Director of PreHealth Advising for the Gateways Master of Medical Sciences Program at Brown. She is also the Founder and primary educational consultant for AdmissionsRx, an educational consulting company for students applying to medical school, PA school, or residency. She is also a strategic advisor for CapYear, a company that helps prehealth students find paid clinical experiences during their gap years.
